Our History
From its humble beginnings, June 21, 1958, with the charter of Epsilon Chapter, Dallas TX. The Southern Region, affectionately known as the “Solid Soul Southern Region,” (Centrally nestled from the northern-most tip of Missouri to the southern borders of Texas, gently sweeping from the western edge of Texas through the Kansas plains and rolling hills of Oklahoma and Arkansas, until it demurely rests at the eastern end of Louisiana, flowing serenely into the mighty Gulf of Mexico), has played an integral part in the history of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
There have been three National Presidents from the Solid Soul Southern Region: Annette Clardy of Alpha Chapter, served as Grand Basileus (1966-1970); Alma D. Alexander, a charter member of Omicron and a member of Xi Chapter, served as Grand Basileus (1974-1980), and Elizabeth Anderson of Rho Chapter served as Grand Basileus (1986 –1990).
There has also been a myriad of national officers, regional directors, national committee chairs, as well as members of the National Foundation Board that came from the Southern Region. Southern Region Directors have contributed the following to the region: Hazel Parks – The Honey Doll Pageant, Therma Davis – Bee-Ettes and Senords Regional Conference, Bonnie Gates – Twenty Five Year Continuous Silver Stars, Gwendolyn Andrew’s Endowment Breakfast, Johnnie M. Dotson – Chapter President’s Recognition Reception, Sandra Finney – Chapter Reactivations, Barbara Doublet – 50th Years Continuous Service Award, Shirley Washington Reed – Sandra Finney Soror of the Year Award, and Dr. Melrose Haley Southern Region Scholarship Award.
Southern Region continues to promote the ideals, goals, and the programmatic thrusts of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated… ”Not for Ourselves, but for Others”
